Welcome to WADE, The Washington Association of Diabetes Educators

In Memoriam

Karen Louise Goldstein RD, CD, CDE
January 1st, 1967 - August 3, 2009

Karen Goldstein was a long time member of WADE and friend and colleague of many diabetes educators throughout Washington. She passed away in 2009. WADE has decided to honor her memory and dedication to diabetes education by establishing with her family a memorial lecture fund.
A committee was formed. They did a lot of research on how to set up this fund correctly and met with the family. Because of tax purposes the fund must be placed in a charitable organization. WADE is a non-profit organization but not a charitable organization. The monies will be sent to the AADE Foundation and we can have access to them at any time.

Your invited to participate in WADE's 2012 Silent Auction to be held at the WADE Annual Educational Conference this coming March 30-31 in Vancouver, WA at the Heathman Lodge.

You can help in two ways, by contributing and by bidding. All of the proceeds will be applied to the Karen Shultz-Goldstein Memorial Lecture Fund. The funds are governed by the AADE Foundation and used to bring national speakers as Keynote Speakers for WADE's annual conferences. Many of you have talents, hobbies and skills that you have shared with WADE in the past and we hope you will continue to participate in this fun activity. It is a good time to shop for those special gifts that may never be found in a store. Hand made items, art, jewelry, electronics are all part of the auction. See more silent auction ideas.

If interested please download the Contribution Form. You may mail the completed form to Pat Haldi (address included on the form) or send it attached to an e-mail to [email protected]. Need help getting an item to the conference? We will help, just indicate on the Contribution Form form your need.

We thank you in advance for your participation in this worthwhile event and remember it is a tax deduction- both the contribution and the payment.

Silent Auction at Annual Conference: A Success

Thank you to all who participated in donating baskets or taking their chance on the raffle and silent auction. We had a lot of fun guessing how much money was in the money jar?? and who would get the free room at the Hyatt for a nice “get away weekend”.

We raised a total of $2865.00 for the lecture fund. That will help us secure many more years of skilled speakers for our annual conferences in the future.

Thank you to Dr. Irl Hirsch who gave the inaugural lecture-Glucose Variability and Pattern Management: Way Beyond Logbooks. His words about Karen were comforting and inspiring. His lecture was an occasion for us to stay on the cutting edge of diabetes management.

Thank you to Karen’s family. We were happy that you could join us and we are grateful that you have allowed us this opportunity to enhance our conference and honor Karen’s memory.
